Choosing the right application channel
Check the e-Visa portal's nationality list: it includes Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others. If your situation is not listed, contact the competent consulate to find out the procedure and any prior authorisation.
For an application in London, the procedures for submitting in person or by post are specific to that post. Do not automatically apply them to another consulate.
Applying for an e-Visa
- Create your account and confirm your registration.
- Log in, select "Apply Now", then the visa type and read its instructions.
- Complete the form and pay by Visa, MasterCard, or another accepted debit card.
- Wait for the decision email. After approval, download and print the e-Visa from your account.
- Present the printout to the immigration officer on arrival.
Documents to present with the e-Visa
- Passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival.
- Printout of the e-Visa and travel itinerary.
- Hotel reservations or information on places visited for tourism.
- For a business or family visit, a company letter or invitation adapted to the purpose.
These requirements are those of the e-Visa portal. For another purpose or a consular submission, follow the list of the competent service.
Fees and lead time
The portal shows 30 USD for a single-entry tourist visa and 65 USD for multiple entries. These rates apply to the electronic application, not to all consular channels.
Create the application at least 7 days before departure. This lead time does not guarantee a decision on a specific date. Track the status of your file in your account and the portal emails.
After issuance
The e-Visa does not guarantee admission. The authorities check its validity and may refuse entry. Respect the dates and conditions of the visa granted; its validity period is not the same as the authorised duration of stay.
Sinai and prior authorisation
According to the London consulate, nationals of the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the United States may receive a free stamp for a stay of 15 days maximum limited to Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, and Taba. A visa is required to leave these areas.
This consulate reports a prior authorisation for Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Iran, Mali, Niger, Syria, Palestine, and Israel, as well as for British travel documents, with a lead time of up to 3 months. A separate notice applies to Sudanese passports since 18 September 2024. Check with the competent post for the procedure corresponding to your passport.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need a visa for Egypt?
The procedure depends on the passport and the trip. Use the nationality selector, then consult the portal or the indicated consulate.
Can Canadians apply for an e-Visa?
Yes, Canada is on the list published by the official portal.
Is the visa on arrival available to everyone?
No. Check the conditions corresponding to your nationality and travel document before leaving.
Does a stay in Sinai always exempt you from a visa?
No: the permission described above depends on the passport, remains limited to the four destinations mentioned, and does not cover travel to the rest of the country.
How do you retrieve the e-Visa?
After approval received by email, download it from your account and print it for arrival.
Can a tourist visa be used for a business assignment?
Check the visa type suited to the purpose. The London consulate requires a business visa for conferences, seminars, professional assignments, and courses; a tourist visa does not automatically authorise these activities.
