Tourist visa for Lithuania: documents, fees and steps

  The Migration Department states that a Schengen visa is required for a stay of 90 days or less within 180 days when the visa-free regime does not apply. The Union Visa Code, which governs this visa in all Schengen States, requires an application form (Annex I to the Code), completed by hand or electronically and signed. The Schengen section of the MIGRIS portal offers the possibility of completing the application online, after logging into an account. No readable Lithuanian page specified the arrangements specific to Lithuanian consulates.

  The travel document must remain valid for at least three months after the planned date of departure from the territory of the Member States (or after the last planned departure, in the case of several visits), contain at least two blank pages and have been issued within the last 10 years. The Code provides for a derogation from the validity period in cases of justified urgency.

  The photograph is one of the items to be presented on submission; it is recorded in the Visa Information System (VIS). ICAO Document 9303, Part 3, Sections 3.9.1 to 3.9.1.2, describes a faithful portrait, without retouching that alters appearance, and a colour print on photographic-quality paper. It recommends a size of 45.0 × 35.0 mm for submitted portraits. Also follow the instructions and format specified by the consulate or centre responsible for your application.
• Travel medical insurance of at least 30 000 euros, valid in all Schengen States for the entire duration of the stayConditions and details

  The insurance covers repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical care, emergency hospitalisation or death. It is valid throughout the territory of the Member States and covers the entire intended duration of the stay, with minimum coverage of 30 000 euros. For a multiple-entry visa, it covers at least the first intended visit. It is in principle taken out in the country of residence.
• Evidence of the purpose of the tourist trip: confirmation of booking of an organised trip or any other document indicating the planned itineraryConditions and details

  The applicant for a uniform visa submits documents indicating the purpose of the trip. For a tourist or private trip, the non-exhaustive list in Annex II mentions confirmation of booking of an organised trip or any other appropriate document indicating the planned itinerary.
• Proof of sufficient means of subsistence for the duration of the stay and for the return to the country of origin or residenceConditions and details

  The applicant must show sufficient means of subsistence for the entire intended stay and for the return to the country of origin or residence, or must be able to acquire such means lawfully. The reference amount notified by Lithuania in the Official Journal of the European Union of 14 July 2025 is EUR 50 per day for the intended stay. Alternatively, a formal invitation, the “Tarpininkavimo raštas”, transmitted by a natural or legal person via MIGRIS may demonstrate the means of subsistence: the inviting party undertakes to provide adequate accommodation and financial support throughout the entire stay covered by the Schengen visa applied for.
• Elements for assessing the intention to leave the Schengen area: booked return or round-trip ticket, means, employment, property, ties in the country of residenceConditions and details

  The applicant provides information enabling an assessment of their intention to leave the territory of the Member States before the visa expires. Annex II cites as examples the booking of a return or round-trip ticket, proof of financial means in the country of residence, proof of employment (bank statements), proof of real estate ownership and proof of integration in the country of residence (family ties, professional situation).

  On the first application, the applicant appears in person and their ten fingerprints are collected. If fingerprints collected during an earlier application were registered in the VIS less than 59 months ago, they are reused, unless there is reasonable doubt as to identity. The questionnaire does not collect this information: the condition must be verified by the applicant.

  The applicant submits documents relating to accommodation, or proof of sufficient means to cover its cost. For a tourist trip, Annex II cites a document from the establishment providing the accommodation or any other appropriate document.   Among the documents relating to accommodation for a tourist or private trip, Annex II cites an invitation from the host when the traveller lodges with them, as well as proof of family ties with the host where applicable. The code allows each State to require a national form for financial sponsorship or private accommodation: its existence for Lithuania has not been verified.
