  For a single- or double-entry visa, the applicant proves that they hold adequate and valid travel medical insurance covering all expenses, including repatriation for medical reasons, emergency medical care, emergency hospitalisation or death. For a multiple-entry visa, the insurance covers the first planned visit, and the applicant signs a declaration acknowledging that one will be required for subsequent stays. The insurance is valid throughout the territory of the Member States, covers the entire duration of the planned stay or transit, with minimum coverage of 30 000 euros.

  Among the general conditions, the applicant proves that they will be able to return to their country of origin or continue their journey at the end of the stay. The portal lists, as documents for assessing the intention to leave the territory of the Member States: the return or round-trip reservation or ticket, proof of financial resources in the country of residence, proof of employment (bank statements), proof of real estate and proof of integration in the country of residence (family ties, professional situation).
• Proof of sufficient means of subsistence during the stayConditions and details

  Among the general conditions to be met to apply for a Schengen visa, the portal requires proof of means of subsistence during the stay. The details of the accepted supporting documents are given by the mission or consular post that receives the application.
• Proof of payment of the visa feeConditions and details

  The visa fee is paid when submitting in person, in euros, US dollars or in the currency of the State of residence. Non-payment makes the application inadmissible: it is not accepted at the counter.

  For a stay with a private individual, the portal lists the host's invitation among the proof of accommodation documents. It states that the national form for financial support or private accommodation is the invitation approved by the General Inspectorate for Immigration (Article 38 of Emergency Ordinance No. 194/2002) for short-stay visit, tourism and business visas. Family ties with the person inviting are proven by appropriate documents.
• Invitation approved by the General Inspectorate for Immigration, to be obtained before submitting the visa application (nationals of certain countries)Conditions and details

  Nationals of the states marked with an asterisk in the portal's list of countries subject to a visa (including Algeria, Egypt, India, Morocco, Russia and Tunisia) must hold, before applying for a short-stay visa, an invitation approved by the General Inspectorate for Immigration of the Ministry of the Interior. The invitations, completed in two copies, are submitted for approval to the local units of the Inspectorate; the review takes 45 days from submission and may be extended by 15 days in justified cases. After approval, one copy is returned to the host, who sends it to the invited person; the latter submits the original to the mission or consular post where the application is filed, within 30 days of approval.
