- Check whether one's nationality is subject to the short-stay visa requirement for Slovenia, according to the European Union list.
- Determine the competent State: the application is submitted to the Schengen State of the main destination; Slovenia may be represented by another Schengen State with which it has concluded a representation agreement.
- Submit the application in the country where one lives if Slovenia has a mission there authorised to process visas or a representation agreement; otherwise, to a Slovenian representation in another country where one's stay is lawful.
- Obtain the C visa form (free of charge), fill it in, then print it: until further notice, the electronic form does not replace the submission of the printed form.
- Gather the documents: the ministry's general list, plus those requested by the mission or consular post of the country of submission, which may vary according to the country of origin.
- Arrange an appointment before submitting the application: it may be required.
- Submit the application in person, at the mission or consular post or with an external service provider, at least 15 days before the trip and no earlier than 6 months before; the ten fingerprints are collected electronically.
- Pay the visa fee (90 euros for an adult); an additional charge may apply if the application goes through a visa centre.
- Wait for the decision: the normal processing time is 15 days, extended up to 45 days if an in-depth examination or additional documents are necessary.
- In the event of a refusal, file a written appeal, in Slovene, within 8 days with the mission or consular post that refused the visa (consular fee of 153 euros).
- During the stay, check that the total number of days spent in the Schengen countries does not exceed 90 days over any 180-day period, nor the validity period of the visa if it is shorter.
