Where to submit your application
For tourism, if a visa is required, make an appointment with an Argentine consulate: you must apply in person. For residence from abroad, the route may go through a DNM entry permit followed by a visa at the consulate of the usual place of residence, or through a direct consular act. Check the route matching your situation.
From within Argentina, the residence application is called a "radicación". RaDEx requires your presence in the country and verifies legal entry; proof of entry or a passport stamp may be requested.
For an entry permit processed at the DNM head office, an appointment by email is required; other offices accept applicants without an appointment. You must attend the consulate in person; procedures at the head office and in regional offices may be carried out by an authorized representative according to the applicable procedure.
Procedure steps
- Identify the procedure suited to your nationality, place of residence and purpose: tourism, an activity eligible for TIE 24H, or residence.
- Tourist visa: make an appointment at the consulate, prepare the form and documents, then attend the interview.
- Residence from abroad: check whether your route requires a DNM entry permit followed by a visa, or a direct consular act.
- Residence from within Argentina: open your RaDEx account with an email address you check regularly, choose the category and pay the fees generated by the platform.
- RaDEx: upload images of the required documents and submit the application. The application for an Argentine criminal record certificate is integrated into the platform when it applies to you.
- Check your emails for tracking and for the date of the personal appointment at the DNM.
- TIE 24H: wait for the decision before entering Argentina and observe the certificate's first-use deadline.
- After entering with a visa obtained from an entry permit, apply for the DNI, if your category entitles you to it, within 60 business days at the Registro Nacional de las Personas.
Documents mentioned by the authority
- Tourist visa: passport valid for at least 6 months from the entry date and containing at least one blank leaf (two sides).
- Tourist visa: 2 recent 4 x 4 cm color photos, front-facing and on a white background.
- Tourist visa: FSV form completed, preferably electronically, and signed by hand.
- Tourist visa: proof of financial solvency and round-trip reservation. The consulate recommends not purchasing tickets before the visa is granted.
- Tourist visa: tourist itinerary and hotel reservation. If you are invited by a private individual and have no hotel reservation, provide an invitation letter.
- A consular interview is required; additional documents may be requested. A compliant file does not guarantee that the visa will be granted.
- Entry permit: original documents with a simple copy, or a copy certified by a notary. Outside the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, the notary's signature must be legalized by the competent provincial notarial college.
- Entry permit: documents issued abroad endorsed by the Argentine consulate of the issuing country or apostilled under the Hague Convention.
- Entry permit: documents not drawn up in Spanish translated by a national public translator, with legalization by the translators' college where they are registered.
- Entry permit: complete copy of the passport and documents specific to the category. If an exemption applies, provide its proof.
- Entry permit: registration of the requesting entity with RENURE if necessary. The acting representative must be registered with the DNM register and present their professional card.
- RaDEx: scans or photos of the documents specific to the category. Family applications may be grouped; each member's documents are still required.
Requirements differ by route. The tourist visa page does not apply to citizens of the People's Republic of China filing at consulates in China: special conditions apply to them.
Fees and timelines
Tourist visa: 150 USD or 150 EUR depending on the consulate, payable in local currency. Confirm the arrangements with the consulate where you submit your application.
For other procedures, consult the official fee table by category and nationality group. It distinguishes migratory service units (UMSM), consular units (UC) and amounts in US dollars: these units are not interchangeable.
For the RaDEx application, pay the amounts generated by the platform. Card payments are credited immediately; cash payments take 5 business days. This timeframe concerns payment, not the residence decision. All amounts due must be paid to finalize the application.
Fee exemptions exist depending on the procedure and supporting documents. For RaDEx, children under 18 attached to a family residence application do not pay the migratory tax. For an entry permit, consult the official list of exemptions and prepare the corresponding proof.
TIE 24H announces a decision within 10 business days. For residence or another entry permit, ask the DNM or the consulate for the timeframe specific to your file.
After entry or decision
After the visa based on an entry permit is issued and effective entry occurs, the corresponding residence is acquired. If your category entitles you to a DNI, you must apply for it within 60 business days of entry.
The DNM describes a tourist stay as a stay of 3 months at most, renewable for a similar period, without automatic renewal. The extension application is made within the 10 days preceding the expiry of the transitory residence. Prepare a valid passport or an identity document accepted for MERCOSUR and its associated countries, the fee and proof of a still-valid stay.
The 60-day window before expiry concerns temporary residence, not a tourist stay. The DNM states that a tourist stay that has already expired cannot be extended: contact it for the applicable exit procedure.
For an exit authorization, have the BURe slip issued, pay the fees through an indicated channel, then return to the counter to obtain the final form. Present it with your travel document on exit. Its announced validity is 10 calendar days: have the DNM confirm the exact deadline and observe it. This formality serves to leave the country; it does not extend your stay.
An unpaid exit fee debt prevents return to Argentina until it is paid. Payment does not guarantee readmission: the authority verifies the purpose of travel and the entry criteria.
Understanding TIE 24H
TIE 24H is intended for nationals of countries exempt from tourist visa for certain listed activities: business, fairs or market studies, scientific, professional, technical, religious or artistic missions, digital nomads, exchanges, internships, scholarships, non-formal education and amateur sport. Choose the subcategory matching your activity and check its conditions.
Despite its name, the announced timeframe is 10 business days. You must not enter Argentina before the decision. The certificate is valid for 3 months for its first use; this period is not a 3-month stay authorization. The authorized length of stay begins at effective entry.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa to travel to Argentina?
The procedure depends on your nationality, passport and purpose. Choose your nationality on this page to see the corresponding answer, then confirm the formalities with the competent consulate. The tourist visa is applied for at the consulate when required.
What is the difference between residence and an entry permit?
A "radicación" is applied for from within Argentina via RaDEx and presupposes legal entry. From abroad, a DNM entry permit may precede the visa issued by the consulate of the usual place of residence. A direct consular act also exists: the route depends on your category.
Is the tourist visa applied for at the DNM?
The tourist visa is applied for in person at the Argentine consulate, by appointment. The entry permit procedure issued by the DNM concerns other routes; it is not a general prerequisite for a tourist visa.
What is TIE 24H?
It is an online procedure for certain activities and nationalities exempt from tourist visa. The decision is announced within 10 business days; wait for it before entering. The certificate is valid for 3 months for first use, while the authorized length of stay begins at entry.
Can a tourist stay be extended?
The DNM provides for a tourist stay of 3 months at most, extendable for a similar period without automatic renewal. Apply for the extension within the 10 days preceding expiry, with a still-valid stay, the accepted travel document and the fee. Once the stay has expired, this extension is no longer possible.
What should I do in case of overstaying?
Contact the DNM for an exit authorization. Have the BURe slip issued and paid, then return to collect the final form to present with your travel document. Have its exact deadline confirmed: the announced validity is 10 calendar days. An unpaid debt blocks return until it is settled; payment does not guarantee readmission.
