Steps

  1. If several Schengen countries are visited, submit the application to the authorities of the main destination country.
  2. Choose your country of residence from the list on the page to find out where and how to submit: VFS Global, embassy or consulate general of Sweden, or representation of another Schengen country.
  3. Check on the website of the competent embassy the documents to prepare: they depend on the country of submission, and the embassy of a country that represents Sweden may request other documents or forms.
  4. Fill in the application, attach the documents and submit it, most often to VFS Global, otherwise at the embassy or consulate general; an appointment may be required.
  5. Pay the fees at the time of submission and hand in your passport, which is forwarded to the embassy or consulate general handling the case.
  6. Wait for the decision, normally taken within 15 days of receipt of the application by the embassy; after submitting at VFS Global, track the case on the provider's website.
  7. Receive the decision and the passport via the provider or the embassy; if approved, a sticker states the visa's period of validity and the number of days of stay.
