Where to apply

Start with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs page on nationalities. It distinguishes exemption, eVisa and consular visa according to the passport and the purpose. For an eVisa, follow the official link given by this Ministry and check the conditions for your route before paying.

For a consular visa, use the pre-application system indicated by the Ministry, then follow the instructions of the embassy, consulate or competent centre. Online filing does not replace presenting the signed form, the passport and the originals. If you have difficulties with the internet or the form, contact the representation directly.

Preparing the application, step by step

  1. Determine the real purpose of travel, your passport, the dates and the appropriate permit. Check the conditions specific to your nationality.
  2. Check passport validity. The usual minimum is 60 days beyond the permitted stay; consult the official exceptions.
  3. For a consular visa, gather the documents required by the post, complete the pre-application and then follow the appointment and filing instructions.
  4. For study, contact the consulate as soon as you receive the admission letter. Check any visa exceptions linked to your programme.
  5. To apply for a work permit from abroad, attend the Turkish consulate in your country of nationality or legal residence. Give the 16-digit reference to your employer, who completes the e-İzin application within 30 days of the work visa application.
  6. Keep the references and follow any requests for additional documents. Before departure, check the dates, entries and conditions of the permit issued.

Which documents to prepare?

Documents vary by procedure. Check the list of the consulate or the competent portal before filing; the visa and the residence permit are separate procedures.

Fees and processing times for your application

The official schedule applicable from 1 January 2026 shows 9 376,40 TRY for the single-entry visa and 31 410,00 TRY for multiple entries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs determines the nationalities liable and the amounts according to reciprocity. This schedule is not a universal eVisa price: check the amount for your procedure before paying.

For a visa application, the Ministry recommends applying at least 1 month before departure. This is advice to apply early, not a guaranteed processing time. Visa fees are not refunded if the application is refused.

For the work permit, the announced evaluation period is 30 days from a complete file, or from receipt of the requested additional documents. The 30 days left to the employer to complete the filing from abroad are a separate deadline. Work permit and residence fees follow their own schedules.

After the decision and on arrival

Respect the conditions of the permit granted and the permitted duration of stay. A visa's validity period does not necessarily match the period you may stay. A visa does not guarantee admission at the border; do not assume that a new application extends the current stay.

Higher education students: after applying for the student residence permit, submit the registration form and the documents indicated to the university's competent service as soon as possible, without waiting for the appointment date. To work during studies, a work permit is required; for short-cycle and bachelor's programmes, this right begins after the 1st year.

Work permit applied for from abroad: after approval, pay the applicable fees and obtain the work visa from the consulate before travelling. After entry with this visa, register your address within 20 days. The work permit normally serves as a residence permit, except for international protection applicants, conditional refugees and persons under temporary protection.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa for Turkey?

It depends on your nationality, passport type and purpose. Check the official regime before choosing between exemption, eVisa and consular visa. Tourist conditions are not sufficient for a study or work plan.

Does an eVisa always allow a 30-day stay?

No. The duration depends on the route and the permit granted. The indications "30 days" and "1 month" are not interchangeable: a calendar month does not always count 30 days. Also check the number of entries and the validity period, which are not the duration of stay.

Does my passport need to be valid for 6 months?

The Ministry recommends validity of 6 months on arrival. The usual minimum provided is 60 days beyond the permitted stay: for example, 150 days of validity for a permitted stay of 90 days. Exceptions exist for certain permits and agreements; consult the official page corresponding to your document.

What is the price of the Turkish visa?

The fee depends on the procedure and the nationality, in particular on reciprocity rules. The 2026 entry schedule shows 9 376,40 TRY for a single entry and 31 410,00 TRY for multiple entries; it must not be confused with the price of each eVisa. Check the applicable amount with the consulate or the official service before paying.

Can I work with a student residence permit?

A student residence permit is not sufficient: a work permit is required. For short-cycle and bachelor's students, the right to work begins after the 1st year. Check the employment and permit conditions with the Ministry of Labour before starting.

What to do after approval of a work permit applied for from abroad?

Follow the notification, pay the applicable fees and obtain the work visa from the consulate. After entry with this visa, the address must be registered within 20 days. The dates and conditions of the permit must be respected; international or temporary protection regimes require special checks.
