Steps

  1. Check whether the nationality is subject to the visa requirement for entering the Schengen area.
  2. Check that Luxembourg is the destination of the trip or its main destination (main purpose or longest stay); where durations are equal, the application goes to the country of first entry into the Schengen area.
  3. Identify the competent office: the Luxembourg mission in the country of legal residence or, failing that, the embassy or consulate of the Schengen State that represents Luxembourg there.
  4. If a person residing in Luxembourg acts as guarantor, they have the undertaking of support (MyGuichet.lu or paper form) drawn up and send it to the applicant once approved by the Ministry.
  5. Submit the completed and signed application in person with the supporting documents, at least 15 calendar days before the visit and no earlier than 6 months before it begins.
  6. Wait for the decision: 15 calendar days as a general rule, up to 30 days (in-depth examination or representing State) and exceptionally 45 days.
  7. If the visa is granted, it is affixed to the passport in the form of a sticker; a refusal is notified by the consulate.
  8. At the external border, present evidence that the entry conditions are met.
  9. Within 3 days of arrival, make an arrival declaration at the commune of the place of stay or fill in an accommodation form with the accommodation establishment.
