Steps

Tourist visa

  1. Apply to an approved tourism establishment in the UAE (agency, hotel) or to an airline based in the UAE, which submits the application; embassies do not issue tourist visas.
  2. Give the establishment the required documents: photo, copy of the passport, health insurance and ticket.
  3. The establishment logs in to the smart services (UAE PASS or username), selects the service, fills in the application and pays the fees.
  4. Receive the visa by email; it can be downloaded as soon as it is issued.

Student visa

  1. Be admitted to an accredited establishment and confirm sponsorship: university or establishment, or resident parent if the conditions are met.
  2. Obtain from the establishment the certificate specifying the duration of studies, then gather the documents: passport, photo, health insurance and, as applicable, national identity card.
  3. Have the competent sponsor initiate the application. In Dubai, most universities allow starting from the country of origin.
  4. If you are abroad, receive the electronic entry permit after approval, then travel to the Emirates.
  5. After arrival, pass the medical fitness examination and the security check, then apply for the Emirates ID card with the federal identity authority.
  6. Complete the residence formalities. Study Dubai announces approximately 15 working days after arrival for this step; the timeframe depends on the application and the university.
  7. In Dubai, renew the ordinary student visa every year through the university or the sponsor, with up-to-date documents, the medical examination and the Emirates ID.

Work visa

  1. The employer, an establishment registered with MOHRE, draws up the job offer in Arabic, in English and in a third language that the worker understands, with the annex to the labour law.
  2. Receive the offer in one's country of origin, read it and sign it: signature for professional levels 1 to 3, fingerprint accepted for levels 4 and 5.
  3. Check the validity of the offer with its reference number on the consultation service on the MOHRE website.
  4. The employer attaches the signed offer to the initial work permit application, examined by MOHRE: approval authorises the worker to enter the UAE.
  5. The employer obtains the entry permit for employment (GDRFA in Dubai, ICP for the other emirates) and sends it to the worker electronically.
  6. Enter the UAE with a passport valid for at least six months and the entry permit; working with a visit or tourist visa is prohibited.
  7. On arrival, the employer and the worker sign the offer, registered with MOHRE as the employment contract filed within 14 days of arrival.
  8. After entry, undergo the medical examination, apply for the Emirates ID and finalise the residence within the entry permit's time limit; in Dubai, the entry permit for employment provides for 60 days.
  9. Renew the visa on its expiry: the standard work visa is valid two years and renewable according to the conditions of the authorities that issue it.
